Hakkında

Moskee Al Ihsane in Zaandam takes its name from ihsan, the station of spiritual excellence defined by the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam in the famous hadith of Jibreel where the archangel asked about the three levels of religion, islam, iman, and ihsan. Ihsan, he explained, is to worship Allah as though you see Him, and knowing that though you do not see Him, He sees you. This definition has been the subject of centuries of commentary by scholars of the heart such as Imam Al Ghazali and Imam An Nawawi, who have taught that the pursuit of ihsan is the summit of the believer's spiritual journey. Naming a mosque Al Ihsane invites its congregation to this highest aspiration each time they enter its doors. The mosque serves the Moroccan and broader Muslim community of Zaandam, occupying an adapted building within the urban fabric of this Dutch town. Inside, the prayer hall is carpeted and oriented toward the qibla, illuminated by soft overhead lighting that creates a contemplative atmosphere conducive to devotional concentration. A mihrab and mimbar anchor the front, with a separate section for women allowing sisters to pray in comfort. Ablution facilities are clean and functional. Educational programmes include daily Qur'an recitation classes for children, tajwid training, fiqh study from Maliki texts reflecting the madhhab predominantly followed by Moroccan Muslims, Arabic language instruction, and Dutch language support for newer immigrants. The mosque also provides marriage solemnisation, funeral rites, and welfare services to the community. Ramadan sees nightly tarawih prayers where worshippers stand for long recitations of the Qur'an, iftars shared with family and friends, Qur'an khatm, and itikaf during the final ten nights. The pursuit of ihsan invoked by the mosque's name shapes the whole character of its community life. Regular retreats organised by Moskee Al Ihsane take small groups of worshippers to quiet rural settings in the Netherlands for two or three days of intensive prayer, dhikr, Qur'an recitation, and reflection, creating space away from the distractions of daily urban life to pursue the station of ihsan that the mosque's name celebrates, with participants often returning to their workplaces and families refreshed in their spiritual commitments and renewed in their determination.
