Hakkında

Haci Bayram Camii Osdorp is a Turkish Dutch mosque serving the Osdorp district of western Amsterdam, though registered here under Zaandam in the original dataset, and takes its name from Hajji Bayram Wali, a famed fifteenth century Turkish Sufi saint and founder of the Bayrami tariqah, one of the Anatolian Sufi orders that flourished during the Ottoman period. Hajji Bayram, known for his gentle spirituality, deep knowledge, and influence on generations of Ottoman scholars and statesmen, has mosques named after him across Turkey, most famously the grand Haci Bayram Camii beside the Roman Temple of Augustus in Ankara. Naming this Amsterdam mosque after him brings the spiritual heritage of Anatolian Sufism into the Dutch urban setting where Turkish migrants have built their religious homes. Osdorp, part of the Nieuw West district of Amsterdam, was developed as a postwar residential area and has become home to a diverse population including many Moroccan and Turkish Muslims. The mosque serves this community with the five daily prayers, the weekly Jumuah gathering, Qur'an classes, Turkish language and cultural education for children, Dutch language support, and welfare services. The prayer hall is carpeted, oriented toward Makkah, and adorned with Islamic calligraphy in the Ottoman style, with a mihrab, a mimbar for the Friday khutbah, and a women's section ensuring modest worship for sisters. A kitchen area supports community iftars, celebrations of Islamic festivals, and the customary gatherings that mark weddings, births, and funerals in the Turkish Dutch tradition. Ramadan at Haci Bayram Camii fills the mosque each evening with tarawih worshippers, and the blessed month's iftars reflect the generous hospitality that Ottoman and Turkish Sufi traditions have always emphasised, with guests fed first and hearts turned toward Allah in collective remembrance. The shared iftars during Ramadan at Haci Bayram Camii Osdorp reflect the rich Turkish culinary tradition, with dishes like lahmacun, adana kebab, stuffed grape leaves called yaprak sarmasi, and the beloved rice pudding sutlac appearing on the tables, and many Dutch neighbours accept invitations to join these meals as a gesture of intercultural fellowship that has helped build warm relations between the mosque community and the surrounding Amsterdam neighbourhood.
