Hakkında
Known locally by three names, Masjid Souq al Ahad in Qasr Bin Ghashir, Jami al Khamsa, and Jami Mubarak, this mosque sits within the agricultural belt south of Tripoli, the historic capital of Libya. Qasr Bin Ghashir grew around a fortified Ottoman era farmhouse whose name still echoes in the district's identity, and for generations the area has hosted the Sunday market that gave the masjid one of its popular titles. The surrounding plains stretch toward the international airport and are dotted with olive groves, orchards, and small farms whose families have gathered at this masjid for daily prayer across many decades of change.
Carrying three names at once speaks to the layered history of the site. Jami Mubarak, meaning the Blessed Mosque, offers a simple supplication for every worshipper who crosses its threshold. Jami al Khamsa, the Mosque of the Five, recalls the five daily prayers commanded upon the Muslim community by God through His Messenger, the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, during his night journey to the heavens. Every name points back to an act of devotion and a habit of remembrance that the Companions, may God be pleased with them, preserved for every generation that followed.
Architecturally the mosque keeps the restrained character of Libyan rural masjids: whitewashed walls, a low square minaret, a flat roof that shelters the interior from the sun, and a carpeted prayer hall with a mihrab of plain plaster. A small madrasa attached to the complex offers Qur'an memorisation classes for the children of the surrounding villages, and women enter through a side door into their own prayer space at the rear of the hall.
During Ramadan the mosque becomes the centre of the Sunday market quarter, serving iftar meals of date soup, bread, and stew to travellers and labourers, while the taraweeh prayers draw large congregations from across Qasr Bin Ghashir. Visitors passing through on the road south from Tripoli will find on this page the current daily prayer timings, the masjid's precise location, and helpful guidance for joining its warm congregation in this corner of the Libyan coastal plain without any confusion whatsoever during the visit.
