Hakkında

Hz. Ali Camii in the Sultangazi district of Istanbul, Turkey, bears the honoured name of Hazrat Ali ibn Abi Talib, the cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم, the fourth of the rightly guided caliphs according to Sunni tradition, and a figure of the deepest veneration across every school and community of Islam. The abbreviation Hz. in the mosque's name is the Turkish short form of Hazrat, an honorific meaning His Presence or the noble one, used for the Prophet, his family, his Companions, and other revered figures. Naming a contemporary mosque after Imam Ali draws the building into the heart of Islamic tradition and reminds worshippers of the example of courage, integrity, piety, and learning that Ali embodied in his lifetime and that continues to inspire Muslims across centuries. Sultangazi as a district is a relatively young administrative division, established in the early twenty-first century, whose population is largely working-class and whose religious life is served by a dense network of neighbourhood mosques. Architecturally this masjid follows the contemporary Turkish mosque tradition: a dome and minaret in classical Ottoman profile, a generous carpeted prayer hall, a mihrab and mimbar, wudu facilities, a women's section, and calligraphic decoration. The Friday khutbah follows the Diyanet's weekly text in Turkish. The congregation reflects the social fabric of Sultangazi. Ramadan brings iftars and taraweeh prayers that animate the masjid late into the night. Visitors passing through can include a brief stop here at prayer time, observing the standard courtesies: modest dress, shoes removed at the threshold, hair covered for women, quiet conduct throughout, and photography carried out only outside of active prayer. A moment of reflection on the example of Imam Ali is particularly appropriate in this masjid. Worshippers often pause in silent remembrance of Imam Ali's example of justice and learning before leaving the hall, a quiet continuation of the reverence that his name commands across Muslim communities worldwide regardless of sectarian or cultural origin or the particular nuances of devotional practice.
