Hakkında

Masjid An-Nur in Skudai, Johor, takes its name from the Arabic An-Nur — the Light — one of the beautiful names of Allah and also the title of the twenty-fourth sura of the Qur'an, which contains the famous Ayat an-Nur: "Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth." A mosque named An-Nur invokes this profound Qur'anic image, placing its worship under the sign of divine illumination that pervades all existence. The mosque serves the Skudai community, a rapidly developed township outside Johor Bahru that has grown around Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and the many residential and commercial developments that have followed. The building is substantial, reflecting its role as a full masjid rather than a smaller surau, with a central dome, a minaret, a wide courtyard, a well-appointed prayer hall, and a separate women's section. As a mosque authorised to host the Friday congregational prayer, it is a principal gathering point for the surrounding community, with Friday jumu'ah drawing a large congregation. Daily prayers are held on schedule, with the familiar rhythms of attendance across the five salawat. The imam is a respected figure in the community, leading the prayers, delivering the Friday khutbah, and officiating at the important life events of the kariah. The mosque committee handles the practical affairs of the building and organises the community's religious and charitable activities. Religious education is active: kelas mengaji for children, a tahfiz programme for Qur'an memorisation, women's halaqat, and regular ceramah. During Ramadan, the mosque is particularly vibrant, with taraweeh every night, communal iftar meals, a programme of tausiyah and tafsir sessions, and the particular spiritual focus of the last ten nights. The Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said that whoever goes to the mosque morning and evening, Allah prepares for him a hospitality in Paradise for every time he goes. The regulars of Masjid An-Nur in Skudai quietly accumulate such hospitalities across the years of their faithful attendance, walking under the sign of the divine Light that the mosque's name invokes. During the community's annual fundraising dinner held on the mosque grounds, the tables are arranged in concentric circles around the minaret's base, a small architectural touch that the long-serving building caretaker considers his personal contribution to the occasion.
