Hakkında
Within the Sabya governorate of Jizan region in the far south west of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, near the fertile coastal plain that descends to the Red Sea and the border with Yemen, the Jami al Shaykh Ibrahim ibn Ali al Qassadi al Tamihi honours a local scholar whose teaching and righteousness left a lasting impression on the region. Jizan itself is among the most historically distinctive regions of the kingdom, its coastal strip of Tihamah fringed by palm groves and farmland irrigated by wadis descending from the Asir highlands, its mountainous hinterland home to terraced agriculture recalling that of Yemen. The region has produced generations of scholars whose works in fiqh, hadith, and Arabic language have spread across the peninsula and beyond. Sabya is the administrative centre of a densely populated governorate, known for its busy weekly souk and its surrounding farmlands producing millet, sesame, and tropical fruits. Architecturally the Jami al Qassadi al Tamihi follows the distinctive Jizani idiom, in which the coastal Tihamah tradition meets the highland Asiri tradition, producing mosques with whitewashed plastered walls, a central dome, a single square or cylindrical minaret, and intricate geometric patterns painted in vivid reds, greens, and ochres around doorways and windows, echoing the famous al qatt al Asiri wall painting practised by the women of Asir and now recognised on the UNESCO intangible heritage list. Inside, the mihrab is framed in carved plaster and the qiblah wall bears calligraphic panels of Quranic verses. The five daily prayers are observed punctually, Jumu'ah fills the hall with worshippers from across the governorate, and the blessed month of Ramadan brings long nights of taraweeh and tahajjud led by huffaz reciters. The two Eid congregations see the courtyard filled with families in their brightest traditional attire, including the Jizani women's embroidered dresses and the men's characteristic headdresses of the region. The mosque also offers Quran classes and hosts study circles in the tradition of the scholar it honours. Jizani grandfathers frequently recall attending lessons here as boys, marvelling that the very same painted floral motifs still brighten the courtyard where they once studied.
