Hakkında

Founded as part of the network of large congregational masajid that serves Riyadh's vast residential districts, Jamaa Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz bin Abdul Wahhab honours a figure from the distinguished scholarly lineage of the Arabian peninsula. Riyadh, once a modest walled oasis town, has grown into a metropolis whose forty plus neighbourhoods each host prominent masajid that anchor community life, and this one takes its place among them as a sanctuary for families in the bustling capital. The architecture reflects the confident Najdi revival style favoured across modern Riyadh, clean geometric lines rendered in sandy limestone, triangular merlons crowning the parapets in echo of the traditional mud brick forts of Diriyah, a central dome that rises above the prayer hall, and twin minarets whose proportions recall the classical Arabian silhouette. Inside, the main hall is clad in veined marble cooled by the heavy air conditioning essential in the desert climate, while calligraphic bands in thuluth script frame the mihrab with verses praising the divine throne. Carpets in deep burgundy soften the acoustics, and crystal chandeliers suspended from the ceiling illuminate the rows of worshippers. The masjid observes all five daily prayers with a fixed schedule synchronised to the official Umm al Qura calendar, and Jumu'ah congregations swell to fill both the main hall and the women's section above. Ramadan brings nightly tarawih prayers led by reciters with melodious voices, with qiyam al layl during the final ten nights drawing worshippers from across the surrounding districts. Free iftars are distributed in the courtyard, featuring dates, laban, Saudi kabsa, and sweets such as kunafah. Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha bring massive outdoor prayers with families dressed in crisp thobes and embroidered abayas. Visitors exploring Riyadh will find the masjid accessible by car or ride share, with nearby attractions including the Kingdom Centre, the National Museum, and the restored mud brick palaces of historic Diriyah, itself a foundational site of the modern Saudi state. The call to prayer resounds through the surrounding streets five times each day, joining countless other Riyadh minarets in an unbroken chorus that marks every hour of the Najdi capital with devotion, remembrance, and steadfast faithfulness.
