Hakkında

Serving residents of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, the Mosque of Sheikh Abdulrahman Rashid al Ruwaished, may God's mercy be upon him, memorialises a Najdi patron whose charitable endowment has provided a lasting venue for daily prayer, Qur'anic teaching and community gathering. Riyadh has been transformed in a single lifetime from the palm ringed walled town that King Abdulaziz captured in 1902 into a gleaming modern capital of wide boulevards, skyscrapers and more than seven million residents, and the dense fabric of its neighbourhood mosques is one of the features that gives the city its deeply Muslim character alongside its modernity. The Najdi tradition emphasises the strict affirmation of divine unity, disciplined attachment to the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and the simplicity of worship unencumbered by elaborate intermediaries. The mosque reflects these values through an austere but dignified architectural language: pale limestone walls, a single dome of cream stone, a minaret with a narrow balcony for the muezzin, a colonnaded courtyard with an ablution fountain of white marble and interior walls clad in polished stone. The mihrab is framed by carved calligraphy in thuluth, the mimbar is of deep sidr wood and the prayer hall is carpeted in deep red patterned with prayer niches aligned toward Makkah. Daily prayers fill the hall with the steady pulse of Najdi devotion, while the Friday Jumu'ah draws a capacity congregation for khutbah in Arabic. Ramadan nights transform the forecourt into an iftar scene of dates, gahwa and rice dishes, tarawih prayers led by invited huffaz, and laylat al Qadr observances that stretch deep into the night. Eid assemblies are dignified and warm. Visitors combining the mosque with nearby attractions will enjoy Diriyah's UNESCO heritage district, the Masmak fortress and the historic Murabba palace. Weekly Tafsir classes after Maghrib draw residents from surrounding compounds, with lessons broadcast through a small radio transmitter for those unable to attend in person due to work or illness. Young students prepare for the annual Prince Sultan Qur'an competitions at the mosque, reciting before volunteer judges who offer gentle correction and encouragement. Visitors passing through the neighbourhood will find the mosque unlocked throughout the day, with its air conditioned prayer hall offering quiet respite from the desert heat and its water cooler constantly refilled with chilled Zamzam for thirsty worshippers.
