Hakkında

BKZS - Dzemat Offenbach am Main is a mosque and community association serving Bosniak Muslims in the Offenbach area of western Germany. The Bosniaks — Muslims of Bosnia and Herzegovina — have a centuries-old Islamic heritage in Europe, with a distinctive tradition shaped by Ottoman rule, local Slavic culture and a strong emphasis on scholarship, moderation and civic engagement. In the aftermath of the war of the 1990s and in the longer history of migration to Germany, a substantial Bosniak diaspora has built institutions that preserve this heritage while participating fully in German life. This particular centre — a dzemat, the Bosniak term for a local mosque community — serves as both a place of worship and a cultural anchor. The prayer hall is welcoming and familiar to anyone who has visited a Balkan mosque, with carpets, calligraphic panels and a simple mihrab. Friday prayers bring the community together, the khutbah typically delivered in Bosnian with Arabic recitation, and the atmosphere carries the dignified quiet characteristic of Bosniak Muslim tradition. The centre runs mekteb (Islamic school) classes for children teaching Quran, Islamic basics and Bosnian language; adult education programs; youth activities; and offers marriages, funerals and pastoral support. Ramadan is a particularly beautiful time. Iftars are open to the community, with traditional Bosniak dishes — bey soup, somun bread, dolma, baklava — making their seasonal appearance. Taraweeh prayers carry the melodic recitation in the Bosnian style, and Laylat al-Qadr draws worshippers into long prayer. Eid mornings gather families in their finest clothes and often include the distinctive Bosniak tradition of visiting elders and taking sweets to neighbors. The centre also engages with wider German society and with other Muslim communities in the city. For a traveler, a respectful visit offers a window into a rich European Muslim tradition that deserves wider appreciation. Bosniak Muslims have endured much and preserved much, and institutions like this one carry that heritage forward with quiet dignity. A respectful visit offers a meaningful window into the distinctive Bosniak Muslim tradition as it lives and grows in western Germany.
