Hakkında

Built by the people of Awlad Musa in the Medenine governorate of southeastern Tunisia, Masjid al Hidayah serves a community whose roots stretch deeply into the tribal and pastoral history of the Djerban and Saharan borderlands. Medenine itself sits along the ancient caravan routes that once connected the coastal cities of Ifriqiyah with the oasis trade of the Sahara, and its people have long combined olive cultivation, livestock herding, and long distance travel in a way of life shaped by sun, wind, and the preservation of family honour. Awlad Musa, a lineage community within the governorate, has maintained its masjid as a focal point of weekly and daily prayer for generations.

The name al Hidayah, meaning Guidance, is among the most cherished words in Islamic vocabulary. Every chapter of the Qur'an opens with the petition ihdina al sirat al mustaqim, guide us along the straight path, a prayer the Companions, may God be pleased with them, were taught to repeat seventeen times each day. Dedicating a mosque to this single concept is a daily reminder that guidance is a gift, granted by God moment by moment to those who ask, and that the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, was himself described in the Qur'an as a guiding light for all peoples.

The building itself reflects the restrained style of Tunisian southern masjids. White walls, a short square minaret, a spacious carpeted prayer hall with a plain plastered mihrab, and small windows designed to keep the interior cool through the fierce summer heat of the pre Saharan plain. A courtyard outside offers shaded benches where elders rest between Asr and Maghrib, and a small madrasa room hosts Qur'an lessons for the children of the surrounding villages.

Herders, olive farmers, truck drivers, and schoolteachers gather here for the five daily prayers and for Jumu'ah, and taraweeh during Ramadan draws families from across Awlad Musa and neighbouring settlements. On this page visitors to Medenine governorate will find the current prayer times, address, and helpful guidance to assist every traveller crossing southern Tunisia to find this humble yet welcoming masjid and share quietly in its devoted rhythm of worship throughout the changing seasons of the southern Tunisian year beneath its wide desert sky.
