Hakkında
The Islamisches Imam Hassan Werk, registered as an eingetragener Verein under German civic law, serves the Muslim community of the Mariendorf district in the south of Berlin, drawing a congregation chiefly of Arab heritage alongside Turkish, Bosnian, African, and German convert worshippers who have found in this modest masjid a spiritual home amid the capital's wider Islamic landscape. The association takes its name from Imam Hassan, the beloved grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, whose memory is honoured across the entire Muslim world as a model of forbearance, generosity, and love of peace. Berlin itself has hosted Muslim residents continuously since the eighteenth century, when the first Ottoman envoys and later students and merchants from Persia, Egypt, and the Balkans settled in the Prussian capital, with the community expanding dramatically during the postwar Gastarbeiter migrations and again more recently with the arrival of Syrian, Iraqi, and Afghan refugees fleeing regional turmoil. The masjid occupies a converted commercial premises on the ground floor of a residential building, adapted to accommodate a rectangular prayer hall for men, a screened area for women, ablution rooms, a small library of Arabic and German religious works, and a kitchen used for community iftar meals during Ramadan and celebratory events on Eid. Five daily prayers follow the Berlin timetable, Jumu'ah is held at one in the afternoon with a khutbah delivered in Arabic and German, and the blessed month of Ramadan sees nightly taraweeh prayers led by a visiting hafiz from the Arab speaking community. Children attend weekend classes in Quran recitation, Arabic, and Islamic manners, while adults gather for lectures on the Quran, the sira, and contemporary questions of Islamic practice in Germany. The masjid coordinates with neighbouring Berlin institutions to support refugee families, bereavement services, Nikah ceremonies, and youth programmes addressing the specific challenges facing young Muslims in the diaspora. The nearest underground station is Alt Mariendorf on the U six line, a short walk through the quiet residential streets, and visitors are warmly received by the volunteer trustees who keep its doors open year round.
