Hakkında

Keçiören Merkez Camii is the central mosque of the Keçiören district, one of the largest and most densely populated residential zones of Ankara, stretching along the northern hills of the capital. As with other Merkez Camii, the Keçiören example is the principal mosque from which the Friday prayer of its district has historically been led. It is a substantial modern structure built in the neo-Ottoman style that has become the de facto idiom of major Turkish mosque architecture over the past three decades: a large central dome rising above a broad prayer hall, twin slim minarets piercing the skyline, and a stone-paved courtyard capable of accommodating the overflow of the Friday congregation. The interior is finished to a high standard, with a carpet in warm tones, a carefully detailed mihrab, calligraphic panels in thuluth and diwani script along the walls, and a wooden minbar carved in traditional style. Women pray in an extensive upper gallery reached by a covered staircase. The mosque is served by a team of imams and muezzins and offers a full programme of religious education, including Qur'an and ethics classes for children, study circles for adults, and special lectures during the sacred months. Ramadan brings nightly tarawih, daily Qur'an khatms, and an organised iftar programme that feeds hundreds of worshippers and neighbours. The mosque is also a focal point for local charitable activity, coordinating zakat and sadaqa collections for families in need across the district. During the last ten nights of Ramadan the mosque becomes a major centre of iʿtikāf, with a number of men from the neighbourhood taking up residence in its annex for the full ten days, devoting themselves to recitation of the Qur'an and to supplication as they seek the Night of Power among the odd nights of the final stretch of the blessed month. For visitors to Keçiören, it offers a dignified place to pray and a genuine experience of Turkish Muslim community life at scale, and the surrounding streets provide ample options for tea, food, and unhurried exploration.
