Hakkında

Among the orange groves and gentle hills of Kolea in the Algerian wilaya of Tipaza, Mosquée Abu Bakr al Siddiq serves a coastal town whose Islamic memory stretches back to the very arrival of the faith on the shores of the Maghreb. Tipaza itself lies fifty miles west of Algiers along the Mediterranean, surrounded by Roman ruins dating from the second century and Phoenician foundations older still. The Arab commander Uqba ibn Nafi, may God be pleased with him, opened much of North Africa to Islam in the seventh century, and successive Berber and Arab dynasties such as the Idrisids, Almoravids, Almohads, and Zayyanids raised mosques, madrasas, and zawiyas across the region, shaping Algerian devotion for more than a thousand years.

Kolea was founded during the Ottoman period and grew into a market town of notable religious learning. Naming the town's mosque after Abu Bakr al Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, the first of the four Rightly Guided Caliphs and closest companion of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, places every daily prayer under his gentle memory. Abu Bakr was famous for emancipating enslaved believers, including the noble Bilal, may God be pleased with him, whose adhan later rang across blessed Medina as the first muezzin of Islam.

Architecturally the building reflects the Maghrebi mosque tradition that has shaped Algerian religious architecture for centuries. A square tiered minaret in the Andalusian manner, whitewashed walls with green trim, a courtyard with a central ablution fountain, horseshoe arches framing the entrance, and an interior of carved cedar, zellige tilework, and calligraphic bands create a sanctuary of quiet beauty. Patterned carpets stretch across the hall, chandeliers of wrought brass hang overhead, and a dignified minbar stands beside the tile lined mihrab.

Daily prayer timings for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at the Kolea mosque appear on this page alongside its Tipaza address, a clear map pin, and thoughtful notes for visitors arriving from Algiers, Cherchell, or the Roman ruins of ancient Tipasa now listed by UNESCO among its world heritage sites. Ramadan evenings fill the narrow streets with iftar tables of shorba frik, bourek, harira, and sweet qalb el louz almond cake. Travellers exploring the Mediterranean coast are welcomed with the warm Algerian greeting, invited to pray in the cool shaded hall, and gently encouraged to offer a sincere supplication asking Almighty God to raise the station of al Siddiq whose unwavering loyalty earned him the title of truthful companion of the beloved Messenger.
