Hakkında

Carrying the name of a revered figure beloved to the people of the surrounding area, مسجد خديجة أم المؤمنين ⵜⴰⵎⴻⵣⴳⵉⴷⴰ ⵏ ⵅⴰⴷⵉⵊⴰ welcomes worshippers throughout the day.. Khenchela itself lies in the Aures mountains, a region of snowy peaks, deep gorges, and Roman ruins whose people have embraced Islam since the seventh century while preserving their indigenous tongue, traditional dress, and ancient customs of mountain hospitality. The Aures region gave Algeria Berber leaders, Islamic scholars, and revered saints across more than a thousand years.

The name of the mosque honours the first wife of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. Khadijah bint Khuwaylid was the first person to believe in his message, comforted him during the earliest trials of prophethood, and supported him with her wealth and wisdom until her death. Naming a mosque after her places before the neighbourhood a lasting reminder that a righteous woman's faith, courage, and generosity can carry an entire community through storm and trial alike. The Companions, may God be pleased with them all, cherished her memory deeply.

Architecturally, the mosque blends North African and Amazigh elements typical of the Aures region. Thick stone walls shelter the interior from the cold mountain winters and hot dry summers, a slender minaret rises beside a carpeted prayer hall, a tiled mihrab of blue and green faces the qiblah, and a courtyard with a fountain provides space for ablution and conversation. Tifinagh script alongside Arabic calligraphy adorns the entrance, reflecting the pride of the congregation in their Berber linguistic heritage.

Farmers from the surrounding plateau, shepherds from the mountain pastures, students from the local schools, and civil servants from Khenchela town centre gather here for the five daily prayers and for Jumu'ah. Taraweeh during Ramadan fills the hall with recitation in both Arabic and occasional Berber poetry. On this page visitors to Khenchela will find the current prayer times, address, and practical notes to help every traveller crossing the Aures region locate this dignified mountain masjid and share in its devoted, welcoming, and beautifully bilingual congregational life beneath the ancient slopes of eastern Algeria's highlands throughout the calendar year.
