Hakkında
Commemorating one of the earliest and most beloved Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, the masjid named after Ammar bin Yasir, may God be pleased with him, rises in the governorate of Hama, a land of waterwheels, orchards, and gentle Syrian hills. Ammar, whose mother Sumayya bint Khayyat, may God be pleased with her, was the first martyr of Islam, belonged to a family whose steadfast faith under torture in early Mecca remained an inspiration for believers of every generation. He would later serve the early community as a trusted governor of Kufa and fall in the cause of God on the plains of Siffin in his ninetieth year.
Hama, known in antiquity as Hamath and mentioned in ancient inscriptions, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities of the Near East. Its most famous features are the massive wooden norias that for more than a thousand years have lifted the waters of the Orontes river into aqueducts that feed gardens and bathhouses. The city came into Islam during the caliphate of Umar ibn al Khattab, may God be pleased with him, and grew under successive dynasties as a centre of agriculture, scholarship, and the memorised transmission of hadith.
The masjid's prayer hall reflects the long Syrian tradition of alternating courses of pale limestone and dark basalt, a decorative technique known as ablaq that softens the summer sun. The mihrab is inscribed with verses from Surat al Ahzab honouring the Companions, while the minbar carries the names of early martyrs in fine Thuluth script. Residents of the nearby Aleppo road, together with families who have moved into Hama from the surrounding countryside, gather here for the five daily prayers and for the long tarawih cycles of Ramadan.
On this page visitors will find current prayer times of Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha for the masjid in Hama, along with a precise address, a location map, and helpful notes that guide local residents, travellers on the great north south highway, and Syrian families abroad returning home to their beloved city on the banks of the Orontes river.
