Hakkında

Masjid Ar Rayane in Grimbergen, a commune on the edge of Brussels, takes its name from Ar Rayyan, one of the gates of Paradise described in hadith as reserved specifically for those who fasted for Allah's sake. That evocative reference is a fitting spiritual frame for a mosque whose community life is shaped by the rhythms of prayer, fasting and sincere devotion. Located in a primarily Flemish suburb that has nonetheless seen its Muslim population grow steadily, this mosque plays an important role in giving local families a trusted place for daily and weekly worship without requiring them to travel into central Brussels. The mosque holds the five daily prayers, Friday congregations with sermons delivered in Arabic and usually in French or Dutch as well, and the full schedule of Islamic observances including the two Eids, Laylat al-Qadr vigils, and commemorations of key moments in Muslim history. The main prayer hall is carpeted, oriented towards the qibla, and often features calligraphy panels with Qur'anic verses and the names of God. Separate sections or floors usually accommodate women's prayer, ensuring that families can attend together. Qur'anic education for children is a visible priority, with weekend classes in tajwid, memorisation and Islamic studies, while adult study circles explore tafsir, seerah, aqidah and fiqh. Youth activities often include mentoring, sports outings, Qur'an competitions and discussions tailored to the questions young Muslims face in a European context. Ramadan transforms the mosque into a hub of nocturnal life, with taraweeh prayers, iftars shared across cultures and a particular focus on the final ten nights. Funerals, marriages and aqiqahs are organised through the mosque, integrating ritual worship with the life events of families. Relationships with neighbouring residents, Belgian authorities and other faith communities are cultivated through open days and dialogue events. For the community it serves, Masjid Ar Rayane is a living echo of the Paradise gate whose name it carries. Masjid Ar Rayane has gradually become a point of reference for converts in the wider region, and the quiet mentoring provided by longstanding congregants to those newly entering Islam is a notable and gently celebrated feature of the mosque's communal life.
