Hakkında

Eving Selimiye Camii takes its place in the Eving district of Dortmund, a north-western German city shaped by mining, steel, and waves of migration that brought Turkish Muslims to this part of the Ruhr half a century ago. The mosque is named for the great Selimiye in Edirne, a distant memorial to the heritage carried by its founders, though the building itself is modest and modern, adapted from an earlier industrial use as so many Ruhr mosques have been. It serves a predominantly Turkish-speaking congregation, with Friday khutbahs typically delivered in Turkish and a translation or summary in German or Arabic when visitors require it. Daily prayers are held on schedule throughout the year, and the community maintains the familiar rhythm of weekly Qur'an classes, youth Arabic lessons, and women's halaqat. Dortmund's Muslim community is large and diverse, and Eving Selimiye is one of many anchors that quietly keep its people connected to their faith through long German winters and short autumn afternoons. Families make the journey here after school pickups and factory shifts; older members walk from nearby apartments holding the hand of a grandchild; students come in from the technical schools for a quick Zuhur between classes. During Ramadan the hall is transformed with long tables for iftar, and the women's section organises its own meal service and khatam Qur'an gathering. Teravih prayers extend late into the night, and the community reaches out to non-Muslim neighbours for open iftar evenings aimed at explaining the meaning of the month. The Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم taught that the best of people is the one most beneficial to others, and the mosque committee lives this by organising food distribution, support for new arrivals in Germany, and assistance for widows and elderly members of the community. For the Turkish Muslims of Eving, Selimiye Camii is not merely a mosque — it is a thread that holds them to the homeland they or their parents left, while rooting them in the city they now call home.
