Hakkında

Located in the Nile Delta governorate of Beheira, the Dar Tahfiz al Quran al Karim serves as both a mosque and a dedicated institute for the memorisation of the noble Qur'an. Beheira takes its name from an Arabic word meaning the Lake, a reference to the great inland lakes and marshes of the western Delta that nourished the ancient Egyptians and continue to support today's fishermen, cotton farmers, and date cultivators. Across the centuries, scholars of Qur'anic sciences have travelled between Rosetta, Damanhur, and Alexandria, leaving a rich memory of recitation and tajweed that living institutes such as this one gratefully continue.

The name Dar Tahfiz al Quran al Karim translates as the House for the Memorisation of the Noble Qur'an, an unambiguous declaration of the building's purpose. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, taught that the best among his community are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it, and the Companions, may God be pleased with them, competed lovingly in preserving every verse in their hearts. Every student who arrives here at dawn with a small mushaf in hand joins that unbroken chain of transmission reaching back across fourteen centuries of Islamic life.

The building itself follows the practical pattern of Egyptian Delta institutes. A whitewashed facade, a small minaret, a simple mihrab, and a broad carpeted hall with floor cushions and low wooden desks where young boys and girls sit in circles around their teachers. Adjoining classrooms handle smaller groups for tajweed correction, while the main hall serves also as the congregational mosque for the five daily prayers.

Parents from the surrounding villages and from the town of Damanhur bring their children here throughout the week, and adult students attend evening classes after Maghrib. During Ramadan the taraweeh prayers are led by the memorisation students themselves, offering the entire Qur'an to the community over the course of the blessed month. On this page visitors will find current prayer times, the institute's address, and practical notes for travellers, donors, and aspiring students hoping to pass a morning or evening in its patient, melodious, and deeply rooted environment of daily recitation.
