Hakkında
Tucked into the Ar Rabiyah suburb of Kuwait City, this modest congregational mosque honours two Kuwaiti women of the al Shalahi al Rashidi family, Nawal and Tahani, whose endowment funded its construction as a perpetual charity intended to continue yielding reward for their ancestors and descendants. The Rashidi association traces the family's roots to the Al Rashid clan of Najd, whose Jabal Shammar emirate once rivalled the early Saudi domain in central Arabia, before many of its members migrated to Kuwait in the twentieth century and became established traders, teachers and civil servants. Kuwait's Islamic story begins in the early eighteenth century when the Bani Utub settled along the shores of the bay, fishing, pearling and trading across the Gulf, and it has matured into a state whose waqf register counts thousands of mosques funded by private piety. Architecturally the building reflects the contemporary Kuwaiti vernacular, with pale limestone cladding, a single turquoise tiled dome raised on an octagonal drum, a slender minaret and shaded arcades designed to cool the approach during the ferocious summer. Inside, the mihrab is lined with cobalt blue tile, the mimbar carved from pale teak rises in three steps and the carpet is woven in deep green patterned with pale gold medallions. A women's section opens behind a timber screen, and the ablution facilities include both standing and seated wudu stations. Prayers follow times published by the Ministry of Awqaf, Jumu'ah khutbah is delivered in classical Arabic with brief advice drawn from the sirah, and Ramadan evenings bring tarawih led by local huffaz. Eid mornings fill the forecourt with families in freshly pressed dishdashas and abayas. Visitors should dress modestly, leave shoes on the angled racks and pause beside the memorial plaque recording the endowment. Nearby landmarks include the Kuwait Towers on the Corniche, the Grand Mosque of Kuwait, the old Souq Mubarakiya and the Tareq Rajab Museum, offering a rounded glimpse into the emirate's faith and commerce. The imam frequently reminds worshippers that the Prophet praised those who build a mosque for the sake of God with the promise of a house in paradise, and this mosque's existence is felt locally as a living fulfilment of that prophetic encouragement, drawing regular mention from the families who still bring their newborn children for the aqiqah supplications.
